In the past, several settlements in the Kalotaszeg region were home to Roma musician dynasties that not only served their own villages but also fulfilled the folk music needs of the entire area. Huedin was one such musical center. In some places, Hungarian lead violinists (prímás) also learned the repertoire (Inaktelke, Türe). With the rise of popular music, the demand for traditional music in Kalotaszeg villages decreased significantly, leading to a decline in the number of Roma musicians, who adapted by retraining in response to the new circumstances. The guitar duo of István Varga “Kiscsipás” and Róbert Lőrinc developed its distinctive sound by drawing on this transforming musical environment.
