Sofi & the Baladis (ISR)

Songs, prayers and storytelling from the ancestors of the people of the holy land with singer and story teller Sofi Tsedaka.
The language of Sofi Tsedaka is an ancient Hebrew. The language that the people of Israel spoke when they arrived at the Promised Land in ancient time. It’s the language that Prophet Moses, King David and Jesus spoke.
Sofi Tsedaka is a singer, musician and a stories teller, born in Israel in the smallest ethnoreligious community in the world the Sumerians. Sofi & the Baladis, a five-member ensemble led by singer Sofi Tsedaka, features soulful and richly textured performances of an array of musical traditions that lie at the heart of Israel’s diverse and historic cultures.

The group’s multi-lingual concerts present new interpretations of songs from the ancient Samaritan community as well as compelling vocal and instrumental work from mid-20th century Arabic composers. The Sumerians are mentioned in the New Testament thanks to the Good Samaritan who helped Jesus on the way for Bet El to Jerusalem. Their music transcends genres and moves easily from deeply spiritual to an upbeat and rhythmic style that captivates and brings audiences to their feet.
