Hungarian State Folk Ensemble: Az örök Kalotaszeg [HU]

Friday | 4 August

In memoriam Varga Ferenc "Csipás"

This piece has taken up the tunes of the virtuoso musician family, the Varga family, nick-named “Csipások” – “The Gummy Eyes” having lived in Bánffyhunyad, Transylvania (Huedin, Romania). Their extraordinary musical skills were passed on from father to son. Without them, the life and dance events of the rural communities in Kalotaszeg (Cluj Region, Romania) and the neighbouring areas would be almost unrecognisable. Music was the element that brought people together and warmed the hearts of Romanians, Hungarians, and Gypsies alike. The dance vision of Zoltán Farkas „Batyu” is accompanied by the music of László Kelemen.
